Digital Adoption at a Personal Level

When I hear the word website, WordPress is the first platform that comes to my mind. WordPress is the latest digital platform that I learned about. I had always heard about it before, perhaps ten years ago, during my girlfriend’s projects at school.

I also see advertisements on social media and different search engines. But I never bother trying it. I already know and tried Wix, but not WordPress in creating a website.

Then came last term in class, when I had a course that required us to create a personal portfolio website; that was when I tried using WordPress. I used to use Wix, especially for my blogs, and I find it easy to use and accessible.

This is why I cannot help but compare it with WordPress. As a first-time WordPress user, I find navigating the buttons a bit complicated and challenging.

But then, after figuring out everything, I acquired knowledge and skills in WordPress. I am very thankful for doing this because, as I am now looking for a job, most employers seek someone knowledgeable about WordPress.

Now, I am still exploring both Wix and WordPress because these new platforms helped me create awareness for my personal brand, Neil Barnes Media. I can easily share the website links with everyone who asks me about a job or brand.

In deciding to use a new technology or tool, my criteria are always if it will benefit me and my career. Creating a website linking to all my social media accounts and blogs helps me personally and professionally.

This is my digital adoption at a personal level. Digital adoption means using new technology effectively to achieve its maximum advantages.

Two Takeaways

1. Change is certain.

My officemate used a famous line saying that the only constant thing in this world is change. Change is inevitable, and we all should be ready in all aspects, physically and even emotionally. Like what is happening now, technology and advancements really have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Before, most people were afraid of computers and cell phones, but here we are now almost everyone has one. I witnessed some transitions in technology in the broadcast industry when it comes to cameras, drones, editing software, and more.

2. Adapt to change.

This is the era where everything and anything is possible. All we need to do is to adjust and adapt to the changes of time. There will be another first in the future, and the changes are unstoppable.

However, it is up to us to use or leverage the benefits of digital changes in schools or even in workplaces. Many tools are available, and we need to utilize them for the better good of other people. Every individual and industry adapts to changes, so we might as well be prepared and face it without fear or intimidation.

I hope that the government will make fair and reasonable laws that will benefit every industries. And I believe that companies are also trying to set guidelines on how to protect and preserve different industries.
